In the earlier times, high heels was viewed a status symbol, a fashion item, and was given a lot of meaning. One particular design of high heels, however, have persisted to exist for centuries up till now. Stilettoes are quite painful yet a lot of people still wear them.
The usage of high heels dates back to the 10th century where men used high heeled boots to make it easier to ride horses. The Persian cavalry were known to use high heeled boots in order to safely nestle their feet in the stirrups. This usage of high heels then quickly spread across Europe. Later then, high heels became entwined with people among the upper class.
At the same time, King Louie XIV had his own loving for high heels that his portrait was taken with him wearing high heels. He had grown such a liking for high heels that he had a signature line of red bottom high heels. Throughout some time, high heels fell in and out of fashion but it was until the Enlightenment when people neglected the use of high heels over more conventional, more practical footwear.
During mid-1950, pornographers brought back the use of high heels to promote their nude models in a way that they can attract customer and likely leave a mental image that would last for some time. It was then when the contemporary high heels that we know today started to evolve.
